X-Ray Free Electron Lasers are in operation and under construction across the globe. A free half a day workshop for the UK community will showcase important and exciting results that have been obtained using X-FELs.
The meeting is organised under the Instruct banner by Jim Naismith (St Andrews), supported by Diamond Light Source.
Program:
10.00: Welcome - Dave Stuart (Diamond/Oxford University) and Jim Naismith (St Andrews University)
10.30: Henry Chapman (European X-FEL) “Serial femtosecondNanocrystallography: A new method to overcome barriers in structure determination”
11.15: IlmeSchlichting(MPG) “X-ray free-electron lasers: Emerging opportunities for structural biology”
12.00: Richard Neutze(Gothenburg) “Serial femtosecondcrystallography and time-resolved WAXS studies of a photosynthetic reaction centre”
12.45: Christian Betzel(University of Hamburg) "Latest methods to grow and prepare micro- and nano- crystals for future free-electron-lasers will open new routes in structural biology"
1.30: Working lunch and discussion
2.00: Funders and UK participant discussion
