User Biography

The Molecular Biotechnology Unit of Biocant has a main scientific interest in thebiochemical characterization of Aspartic Proteases (APs). We have projects in APs from different organisms, ranging from bacteria to human enzymes, with a emphasis on plant aspartic proteases, as this is in line with the lab tradition.

The interest in APs ranges from an evolutionary point of view, to biotech applications in food industry, as well as drug targets for human health.

Apart from APs I am the PI of a project aiming to characterize (structuraly and biophysically), the interaction of a human phosphatase named laforin with carbohydrates.
