Faculty position in cryo-EM at Université de Montréal

Montreal, Canada
Application deadline: 15 Jan 2021

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine of the Université de Montréal invites applications for a tenure track position faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. They are seeking a strong and dynamic candidate who uses state-of-the-art techniques in cryo-electron microscopy for structure determination of biological macromolecules with the goal of elucidating their mechanisms and contribute to the molecular design of drugs. Candidates with expertise in other areas of structural biology including computational approaches (artificial intelligence, etc.) will also be considered. Outstanding candidates will be considered for the Courtois Endowed Research Chair in Molecular Design of Drugs at the Université de Montréal for an initial period of 5 years.

Their research activities will take place on the Université de Montréal campus. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative faculty spanning a broad range of fields and a department that provides exceptional support through its core research facilities, including state-of-the-art facilities in structural biology and microscopy. They are especially interested in attracting colleagues who share our commitment to teaching, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative climate that embraces both excellence and diversity. The candidate will be encouraged to coordinate efforts in the development of cryo-electron microscopy at the Université de Montréal.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity through your teaching and research activities to contribute to the excellence and visibility of the Faculty of Medicine/Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine. As such, they expect that you will:

  • Contribute to the department's teaching mission at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Supervise graduate students;
  • Develop a network of collaborations both within the Faculty of Medicine and internationally;
  • Contribute to the academic life of the Faculty of Medicine/Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine.

To succeed in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry (or equivalent) and demonstrate significant post-doctoral experience and productivity in the field of structural biology;
  • Have outstanding experience in this field, including advanced techniques in cryo-electron microscopy and complementary approaches such as cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, and bioinformatics;
  • Have the ability and great interest to work in a team environment;
  • Have an adequate knowledge of the written and spoken French language or a strong commitment to obtaining a required proficiency level, in accordance with Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An institutional learning support program is offered to all professors wishing to learn French or improve their communication skills.

How to submit your application:
