Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the School of Biochemistry, University of Bristol

Bristol, United Kingdom
Application deadline: 31 Mar 2019

The School of Biochemistry at the University of Bristol is seeking to further strengthen its internationally competitive research base and further its educational capacity through a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level appointment.

Applications from early career scientists, including research fellows and senior postdoctoral researchers, whose interests complement and enhance current School activities are encouraged. The research activities covered are broad, encompassing single-molecule microscopy, structural biology, biodesign, cell biology, and the study of cell behaviour in tissues and model organisms.

About the position

The position will be based in the Biomedical Sciences Building with access to outstanding state-of-the-art core technologies (including proteomics, light and electron microscopy, cryo-EM for structural biology, protein expression, liquid handling robotics and flow-cytometry) and Ph.D. training programmes funded through the Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

The successful candidate will bring and develop a creative, high-impact and internationally-competitive research programme supported by external funding (the School’s annual grant expenditure exceeds £8M) and will also provide innovative and engaging teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students. With over 35 research groups in the School working in biomolecular structure and function, synthetic biology and cell biology, and supported by close relationships with other Schools within the University, there are extensive opportunities for collaborative research, for example across a broad array of clinical and non-clinical health-related areas (Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences and the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for details) or in synthetic biology.

Applications

Applications would be particularly welcome from candidates with interests in protein-nucleic acid interactions and molecular genetics, synthetic biology, and/or structural biology.
