Molecular Biologist

IGBMC-CERBM, Illkirch, France
Application deadline: 03 Sep 2012

The production of recombinant complex is becoming increasingly important as the focus of molecular and structural biology progresses from analysis of single proteins to that of multi-subunit assemblies. In case of complexes composed of many subunits or when a large number of variants (mutations, truncations) have to be tested, assembling the DNA encoding the complex (ie cloning/constructing a contiguous piece of DNA from the relevant parts) can be highly challenging. The development of efficient methods in this area is therefore of uttermost importance.

As part of the French national (FRISBI) and European (Instruct) structural biology infrastructure, the Center for Integrative Structural Biology at IGBMC provides a leading-edge technological environment to better understand the functioning of biological systems at various scales and is recognized for its expertise in the production and structural characterization of proteins and other macromolecular complexes.

To streamline expression screening and production of recombinant multi-protein complexes, we continue to invest in the development of new approaches. In this context, we are seeking a highly motivated molecular biologist to develop and automate procedures for the assembly of multi-gene constructs for expression of complexes in prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts including yeast, insect and mammalian cells. This funded position is available for 2 years with possibility of extension.

Skills in bioinformatics automation would be a plus. Candidates should have a good publication record and should be fluent in English.

Good communication skills and ability to work in a team are essential.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree with at least 3 years of proven research in molecular biology, biochemistry and/or structural biology. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construct design, cloning, mutagenesis and protein expression/purification. Prior experience with eukaryotic expression systems would be an asset.

Candidates are invited to apply by sending a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a brief description of career goals and the contact information of three persons able to provide reference letters to :
