Jobs in Structural Biology and Related Fields

Postdoctoral Position

Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium
Application deadline: 23 Feb 2014

The Peter TOMPA Lab is looking for a post-doctoral candidate in structural biology.

Our goal is this conduct high-quality research in structural biology, in particular on intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs), a recently discovered important class of proteins that exist and function without well-defined 3D structures. These proteins defy the classical structure-function paradigm, yet they play important roles in signaling and regulation, and are often involved in disease. The Tompa lab uses a combination of computational, structural and biophysical techniques to uncover the structure-function relationship of these proteins.

The successful candidate will contribute to a project conducted in collaboration with the leading pharma company in Belgium, Janssen Pharmaceutica, on the structural characterization and inhibitor development of an important cancer-related intrinsically disordered target protein. We plan to use NMR for solving the structural ensemble of this target protein, followed by computational design, development and optimization of small molecules to interfere with its action in cancer-related biochemical and cell-biological assays.

Candidates with an industrial background are encouraged to apply.
