Postdoctoral Position in Structural Biology

Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels, Belgium
Application deadline: 06 Jan 2013

Description

The Jan Steyaert lab is looking for post-doctoral candidates to strengthen our team working on nanobody-assisted X-ray crystallography. Our goal is to develop new tools and methods for solving structures of the most challenging targets including membrane proteins, flexible proteins, and aggregating proteins. A new research area of the lab involves the study of transient protein-protein interactions using nanobodies. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of new methods and techniques at the interface of structural biology and cellular biology.

The Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, VUB) has a record of achievements in the field of structural biology. The Department of Structural Biology hosts 6 groupleaders and 70 scientists, focusing on exploring protein structure and biomolecular interaction networks. The structural biology department is housed in new laboratory facilities and combines extensive expertise in biophysics and molecular biology. We master genetic engineering, protein purification, enzymology, calorimetry, crystallography, surface plasmon resonance, atomic force microscopy and NMR.

The Department of Structural Biology in Brussels is also part of the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB). VIB is an excellence-based entrepreneurial institute that focuses on translating basic scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications.

Profile

(1) ?Skills in the expression, purification and crystallization of membrane proteins, or (2) experience with phage or yeast display methods, or (3)know-how on baculoviral expression systems, or (4) a background in transient protein-protein interactions are an asset.

Candidates with an industrial background are encouraged to apply.

How to apply?

?Candidates can send a motivation letter and CV to Jan Steyaert.
