Research Technician opportunity in the lab of Prof. Jim Kaufman at the University of Edinburgh

University of Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh , United Kingdom
Application deadline: 25 Jun 2021

The lab of Prof. Jim Kaufman at the University of Edinburgh is looking for a Research Technician to help us understand how chicken MHC molecules have such profound effects on resistance and susceptibility to economically-important diseases. We will begin by using protein expression systems and biochemical methods to produce reagents for identifying antigen-specific T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells.

The Opportunity:

You will join the research team with many years of experience with MHC molecules and now a unique set of viral peptides that allow us to produce peptide-MHC tetramers for flow cytometric analysis of vaccinated and infected chickens. Such analyses will revolutionise our understanding of important poultry diseases.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Conceptual understanding of immunology and molecular biology
  • Some laboratory experience, if possible with protein expression and purification
  • Careful accurate work and good record keeping skills
  • Curiosity, enthusiasm and willingness to work hard
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
