Published in the journal PLOS pathogens, a collaboration between scientists at the University of Oxford and Reading Universities, the Pirbright Institute, and the UK's national synchrotron facility, the Diamond Light Source near Oxford describe the development of a new method to create an entirely synthetic vaccine which doesn't rely on using live infectious virus.
Talking about the development yesterday on the BBC News at 10 Prof David Stuart from the University of Oxford, Diamond Light Souce and UK Instruct Centre said "What we have achieved here is close to the holy grail of foot-and-mouth vaccines”
