Postdoctoral scientist at Goethe University Frankfurt - Crystallography

Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany
Application deadline: 17 Aug 2021

The Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main offers immediately a position of a Postdoctoral scientist (m/f/d) (E13 TV-G-U)

limited for initially 2 years. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

We are looking for a highly motivated and qualified biochemist with experience in protein purification and characterization as well as expertise in the development of biochemical assays for the development of specific inhibitors for novel E3 ligases („Discovery and characterisation of small molecule inhibitors for novel E3 ligases”). We offer an exciting position embedded in an interdisciplinary, highly stimulating and international research environment at the life science campus Riedberg as well as ‘Landesticket Hessen’.

We offer an exciting position embedded in an interdisciplinary research environment.

The position is embedded in the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), a not-for-profit, public-private partnership encompassing 8 pharmaceutical companies that conducts pre-competitive research to facilitate the discovery of new medicines. Based at several additional international universities (Stockholm, Toronto, Chapel Hill, Campinas) the SGC's work contributes to new hypotheses in understanding and treating human disease, and the subsequent identification of new targets for drug discovery. The SGC is committed to Open Science, sharing knowledge, data and reagents, which has led to a collaborative network of more than 250 international partners. The project is part of the Target 2035 initiative, an international science federation with the goal to develop small molecule inhibitors for the human proteome. The first step is the IMI project EUbOPEN, an Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) funded project, which aims to generate specific chemical probes and assemble an open access chemogenomic library of well annotated compounds covering roughly 1,000 different proteins and test them in biological assays.

You have a PhD in biology, chemistry biochemistry, biotechnology or similar. You have profound knowledge in molecular biology, biochemical and cellular technologies and experience in assay development. Practical experience in high-throughput technologies and liquid handling and experience of working abroad is a plus. You are comfortable to work within an interdisciplinary team of international scientists with different personalities and cultures. Fluency in English is a prerequisite. You are passionate about your work and have a proactive attitude.

Goethe University is striving to increase the proportion of female researchers and encourages in particular women to apply for the position. People with disabilities will be given priority over other applicants with the same qualifications.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a cover letter stating career interests, CV and contact addresses of at least two referees in a single PDF until 17th August 2021 to the following e-mail address: Susanne.mueller-knapp@bmls.de.

Please note that application documents will be destroyed and not send back after the application procedure (do not hand in original documents) and travel costs cannot be refunded.
